Michael D. Flanagan of Frisco, TX, age 74, passed away after a short illness on August 19, 2025.

Michael was born on July 11, 1951 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Edward and Muriel Flanagan. As part of an Air Force family, he lived in several states during his childhood before settling in the Dallas area. Michael graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's degree and started teaching high school students, a career he would follow for over 45 years, first at Waldon Preparatory School in Dallas, TX, followed by time at LV Berkner High School and Richardson High School in Richardson, TX.

Michael was an avid reader with a strong interest in military history and a real affection for classic Jeep Cherokees. He had a deep love for his family and friends, and his commitment to nurturing those relationships was evident throughout his life. Michael took joy in spending time with those he loved, whether it was attending a youth sports game, taking a family trip, gathering for a special occasion, playing with his grandchildren who adored him, or simply sharing a coffee at Starbucks together. Family and friends cherished their time with Michael and will remember him as a selfless, steadfast, and loving man who could always make them laugh with his quick wit.

Michael was preceded in death by his father Edward Flanagan, his mother Muriel Flanagan, and his brother Howard Flanagan. He is survived by his daughter Kelly Flanagan and her wife Amy Flanagan and their two children, his daughter Kate Flanagan and her partner Nick Phillips and their two children, his former wife and dear friend Susan Flanagan, his sister Kathleen Shockey, his sister Denise Park and her husband Tom Park, and his longtime friend Gretchen Notz.

In lieu of flowers, the Flanagan family asks that family and friends please consider a donation to your local library in his honor.
