Michael Deleon Stephenson

On January 19, 1947 Freeman E. and Maureen C. Stephenson welcomed Michael Deleon Stephenson into the world. Born just 11 months after his sister Sandra Diann these two formed a special bond that would last forever.

As a young child Michael was mischievous, loved playing jokes on his sisters and spending time outside exploring the woods near their home. Being the only boy surrounded by women, Michael developed a protective spirit at a young age.

He was educated in DISD graduating from Booker T Washington Technical High School in 1965. In High School he was known for his sense of humor, charisma, and being the best dressed man in the room. He enjoyed sports but concentrated mainly on baseball and was offered a college scholarship. Being the selfless brother and son that he was, not wanting to add any financial strains on his mother he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force. Michael earned the rank of Sergeant while fighting in the Vietnam War.

Upon his return Michael like so many other war veterans was a changed man. His love for nature continued as he often enjoyed spending time in the woods, taking walks, and being alone. Although he became a man of few words his love for his family never subsided. He was always around on holidays especially Christmas when he loved to gift us all with lottery tickets!! His protection for “his girls” never ceased which is why over the last 2 years he silently suffered while protecting his loved ones from the harsh reality of the cancer he was battling. Though he often moved in silence his presence in our close-knit family will be forever missed. On February 16th, 2022 (his dear sister Sandra Diann’s birthday) Michael finally “won the lottery” and went on home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Although we are heartbroken, we find peace and hold close to our hearts the scripture that he left written on a notebook in his room, Psalms 23:6 SURELY goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Michael was preceded in death by his Father Freeman Earl Stephenson, Beloved Grandmother Stella May Havis (affectionately known as Gram), and other uncles. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his faithful Mother Maureen C. Stephenson (Aunt Sally), his two sisters Sandra Diann Stephenson Brown(Doc), Patricia Stephenson Walker, 2 sons, 3 loving nieces Angela Stephenson, Tiffany Brown, and Andrea M. Walker, Aunt Mayme Stephenson, and a host of cousins and other relatives.
