Mildred Anne Scharre was born in Louisville, KY, the daughter of August and Blanche Scharre and younger sister of Stanley Scharre. She graduated from Girls High School and The University of Louisville. She was a life member of Sigma Kappa sorority. At college she met her future husband Thomas Shea. After college she taught school for two years. In June 1946 when Tom Shea returned from World War II service she married him at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Louisville. They were married for 63 years. After marriage she lived in Canton, OH where son Thomas was born. They then lived in Cincinnati, OH where sons Douglas and Jonathan were born. In September 1957, the family moved to Richardson, TX where she lived for the rest of her life. She was active in the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration where she volunteered at the church used clothing shop and later made meals for the Stewpot and Austin Street Shelter. She worked in politics and served as precinct chairman for decades, attending many senatorial district and state conventions. She served on the Richardson Public library Board in the early 1970s. Mildred loved playing bridge and played for years at the Church Bridge Club and more recently at The Appletree Court. In later years she and Tom traveled extensively going to The British Isles, France, Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, Greece and Egypt. She continued to drive until she was 95 years old. In her last years she found a new church home around the corner at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. Mildred was preceded in death by her Grandma Scharre, her parents, husband Tom and brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Natalie Scharre. She is survived by son Tom of Garland, son Douglas and his wife Monica of Austin and son Jonathan and wife Sheree of Richardson. Also by her granddaughters Marianne and husband Dushyanth Reddivari and Natalie Shea. She was looking forward to the birth of her great granddaughter next Fall. Mildred is also survived by nephew David Scharre and wife Jan and their children and grandchildren, niece Margaret Scharre, and nephew Philip Scharre and wife Annette. The memorial service will be May 17 at 2 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany at 421 Custer Road Richardson, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to The Church of the Epiphany or Episcopal Relief and Development.
