Richard Allen "Dick" Leger

Richard Allen "Dick" Leger passed away on February 18th, 2014, after courageously battling the return of pulmonary fibrosis and cancer. Although his body was weak his fighting spirit was strong. Dick was born in Dallas Texas to Marjorie and Raymond Leger on October 27, 1948. A lover of life and his family, he was a friend to every person he met. Dick married the love of his life and high school sweetheart Janice Partridge February 27, 1970. During their 44 years together, he and Janice were blessed with the births of daughters Stephanie and Lindsay. “Pops” lovingly and proudly embraced the addition of son-in-laws Jeffrey Crocker and Christopher Majors who blessed his life with his precious grandchildren, Bailey, Brooks, Cooper, Zachary, Ashley, Riley and a great grandson Kashton.

Dick leaves behind a lasting legacy of his quick wit, laughter, contagious smile, kind spirit, positive attitude and strong belief in Christ. After attending the University of North Texas and serving in the military, he spent 25 years in sales in the international freight forwarding industry, where he cultivated lasting friendships with a genuine handshake and a gift of conversation with clients and co-workers. Due to health, he retired in November, 2013.

He modestly served his country with honor in Vietnam, earning numerous metals and Bronze stars for his valor. "Pops" loved fishing and baseball and shared his passion with his grandchildren and friends as well as a love of history and geography. He loved the holidays and family gatherings and leaves behind great memories of the fun and humor he added to family vacations, cruises and events.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, his brother Rodger Leger & wife Becky and their children, and who he considered to also be his “sister” and “brother” rather than “in-laws”, Patricia Hall and Steven Partridge and their spouses Fred and Perri and their children. Additionally, he is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Many thanks to Dr. Alfred Levy of Baylor and Dr. Qiong Bai, for their compassion and care, and the many nurses and doctors at UTSW.

Family visitation will be Friday, February 21st from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and a celebration of his life on Saturday, February 22nd at 2:00pm will be at Sparkman Funeral Home located 1029 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson, Texas. Interment will be at Restland cemetery.
