David was going through some memorabilia and came across this picture. As a young couple looking for a church we heard Pastor Meier preaching the book of Daniel. We planned to stay through the book and never left. His practical teaching and application to the word of God, taught us how to be  Godly parents and committed Christian. 

I will never forget Dr. Meier and his impact on my life.  During my prayer time this morning, I reflected on my time at Open Door Baptist Church and Open Door Baptist High School and wondered where his purpose led him after I graduated in 1977.  I was acquainted with his daughter Lynn (I believe she graduated in 1978). 
I gave my life to the Lord under his leadership on April 17, 1976 - he gave the alter call.  It set the stage for my high school senior year and helped me overcome the challenges I'd face there.  
Even though I am several years late, I'm writing to express my condolences and let family and friends know that his life made a difference in my life.

Pastor and my family were very close back in the day we went on motorcycle rides and pastor was a pilot and we and pastors family flew airplanes. In 1979 I ask pastor Meier to marry me and my prospect. I was 19 year’s old. So was Carrol , my high school girlfriend met pastor Meier March of 1979, she attended a service and went forward and got saved, praise the lord, she eventually graduated from high school and then I went to Michigan a brought her to Kansas. ,pastor Meier married us December 1st. 1979  , and we are still going strong  thanks to our god  almighty.  

I remember coming to Open Door where the difference is worth the distance.  It certainly was.  I only knew liberal churches as a boy. When my life was a mess a man I worked with played Bott radio all day at work. This was where I first heard Dick preach. I new I needed to be back in church so we visited my old church where in a S.S. class discussion No one could answer the question what was the holy spirit. I knew then I had to visit Open Door where I knew Dick preached the bible. I loved it the first time and the next week Jack Van Impe preached and my wife and sister went forward to be saved. I thought I was saved already so I hung onto the pew. The next Thursday evening after dinner I turned to my wife and said, "I wish I could talk to Pastor Meier". Within seconds God answered my prayer. The doorbell rang and when I looked out the peep hole, there was Dick Meier with his daughter Lynn. I opened the door and pulled him in when he reached out to shake my hand. There in our apartment I gave my heart to Jesus. I loved the whole Meier family and look forward to the great reunion in heaven where I can thank Dick again for his faithfulness!

Lorraine,     We are writing now after hearing about Pastor Meier's passing just this past Saturday, May 4, 2019 from Tony & Judy Curtis at Wilma Anderson's funeral in Kansas City, KS.   We hope you are still reading these memorials.
Pastor Meier was a wonderful pastor & teacher.  He has had a wonderful reunion up in Heaven with many he led to the Lord.  I was an assistant pastor under him & learned much wisdom.   Phyllis & I enjoyed our time knowing him at Open Door Baptist Church in KS.   He has left a good legacy.  We hope you & your family are doing well.   Gary & Phyllis Terrill

Pastor Meier was a significant influence in the teenage lives of both my wife and myself while we attended a church he planted in Millard, Nebraska (now a part of Omaha) in the early to mid-1960s.  As a young pastor, he tirelessly instilled biblical principles in the lives of our youth that have carried me through many situations in life.  He was a mentor, a pastor, and a friend.

I'm hoping that you will still be receiving and reading messages to you about Pastor Meier!
I appreciate so much all the things I learned from him.  Working as his secretary for those years at Open Door Baptist Church was a memory I look back to with warm memories.  Pastor Meier was a man of integrity - without one doubt.
Yesterday, in our Sunday School class, we were talking about success, and I remembered one of the things that he said......"Don't ever measure success by the world's standards."  I have passed that wise nugget to my children and my grandchildren.  What was true then is still true today!
Lorraine, I would love to hear from you sometime.

Pastor Meier was the man God used to bring me out of the Charismatic movement by simply comparing scripture with scripture, line upon line.  He had a most amazing love and devotion for the Bible.

Pastor Meier!s practical preaching at Open Door while we were in Bible college made a huge impact in our lives.

Dick was truly a gentleman's gentleman.  He was always kind and loving and will be missed greatly.

Let us celebrate a Christian life lived in service to others.  He will be missed here but welcomed above.
