Bob was raised in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Detroit Metropolitan High School. After High school he spent two years as a Naval Photographer during the end of WWII. Immediately after his service in the Navy, Bob was employed as a beach lifeguard in Del Ray Beach, Florida. He then attended college in Lansing, Michigan and graduated with a degree in Accounting.
Bob’s career in sales took him to many places. During his first job at 3M he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he met and later married his wife of 55 years, Sammie. Bob and Sammie moved from Tulsa to New Jersey, then to Chicago and finally to Dallas, Texas where they remained for the rest of their lives. Bob and Sammie enjoyed traveling to new destinations with his work and later with their church group. He found joy in spending time with family, friends, and learning about others throughout his life.
After Sammie’s passing, Bob moved to Presbyterian Village North where he continued to make new friends and loved participating in the community. Bob was always up for a game of cards, a lunch outing, great conversations and faithfully attended his favorite church service each Sunday. He lived a full life and left a legacy of faith, love for his family, and gratitude to others.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife Sammie McRae of Dallas, Texas, his son Bill McRae of Dallas, Texas and his parents Bill and Carrie McRae of Detroit, Michigan.
He is survived by his son David McRae and wife Maudeen, and his daughter Mary Merryman and husband Shon. He was also the proud, loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Kaleigh McRae, Robert McRae, Lindsay Merryman, Cade Merryman, Cameron Merryman and Shelbi Merryman.
Though we grieve our loss, we know Bob had a simple and steady faith in Jesus and we have a living hope that we will see him again as we remember the promises found in 1 Peter 1:3-5: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in Heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power, until the coming of salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
