Robert Frederick Notz Sr., beloved son, father, and patriot, passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, adventure, and unwavering pride in service. Born in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to Sophia and Frederick Notz on December 9th, 1936, he grew up in a home rooted in compassion and duty— beginning a lifelong journey that shaped Robert’s values and spirit.
From an early age, Robert showed a natural talent for athletics. Tall and lean, he earned the childhood nickname “Bones,” a term of endearment that followed him through school as he excelled in sports. Whether on the field or the court, his competitive spirit and tall, lanky silhouette made him a standout among his peers. Sports were more than just games to Robert—they were a source of joy, camaraderie, and discipline that stayed with him throughout his life.
Following school, Robert went on to join the military, serving his country with distinction in the Air Force. His service was marked by numerous awards and commendations, each a testament to his courage, discipline, and deep commitment to the nation he loved. During his 12 years in service, Robert earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Metal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, just to name a few. He carried that pride and discipline with him throughout his life, never missing a chance to share stories of camaraderie and sacrifice, or to wake up at 5 a.m. to start his day.
Robert’s life was forever changed the night he met the love of his life at a military bar in New York. She was a compassionate and dedicated nurse, whose warmth and strength matched his own. Their connection was instant—two souls drawn together by shared values of service and care. That chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong partnership built on mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering support. On April 20, 1962 Robert married Connie Van Wie, in upstate New York. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, raising two children, Robert Jr and Lynnette, and creating a home filled with love, resilience, and adventure. Her presence was his anchor, and their bond remained a source of strength through every chapter of his journey.
Beyond his military and family achievements, Robert was a man of many passions. He found joy in coaching his children on the baseball field, where his encouragement and love of the game created cherished memories and lifelong lessons. A master of the hunt—not for game, but for the perfect bargain—Robert had an uncanny knack for finding treasures in the most unexpected places. His love of travel took him across the globe, but he held a special fondness for Germany, where he delighted in cruises down the Rhine, soaking in the history, beauty, and serenity of the river. Robert was the kind of person who could light up a room with his presence. Outgoing and effortlessly friendly, he had a gift for making others feel seen and welcomed. Whether striking up a conversation in line at the grocery store or sharing stories with fellow travelers on a cruise, Robert never met a stranger—only future friends. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in people created connections wherever he went, leaving lasting impressions and countless smiles in his wake.
Robert’s life was a tapestry of service, family, and adventure. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his sharp wit, and the way he made every moment count. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely. A private family graveside service will be held at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery to honor Robert's life.
