Bob attended St. Marks for a couple of years before transferring to and graduating from Hillcrest High School. After graduating from Southern Methodist University he became a member of a USA Soccer team which competed around the country and Great Britain. He attended Seminary School in Southern California and went to Edinburg, Scotland for his final year. Just short of completing his degree he returned to the US. Later in his life, after experiencing other careers, he returned to the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, which he belonged to as a child, as the leader of a young adult group with which he shared his interest in music and his talent on the guitar. He went on to devote more of his time to his music including his own compositions. In time his creative talents turned toward photography. As with his music he was self taught and passionate. He returned – repeatedly – to the Southwest United States; capturing the vivid colors of the Albuquerque Balloon Festival and the muted tones of the desert at sunset. In this past year his work was recognized and twice awarded by his peers.
Bob never lost his love for soccer. He went back to the field as a referee – sharing his knowledge of the game and enjoying the competition and competitors.
Bob’s most recent project was a self-designed and self-built “mini-home” on wheels in which he planned to travel around the country with his special companion, Chula, capturing images with a camera. The wheels were on the trailer and the walls partially up when Bob passed away at home.
Survivors include sister, Merijean S. Kelley of Palo Alto, CA; nephews Colin Kelley of Huntington Beach, CA; Dr. Joseph Shelton of Fort Worth, TX; David Shelton of Dallas, TX; and niece, Cathleen Shelton of Dallas, TX.
