Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Robert Lee Spottswood, went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2020. He is now reunited with his wife Barbara, his parents, family and close friends. Bob and Barbara, both raised in Oklahoma City, started dating at 19 years of age while in college. They were married 68 years experiencing a full life together of bringing glory to their Lord. And we know someday we will be happily together again. Bob was born in Oklahoma City on January 30, 1931, the only child of parents Palmer Spottswood and Hazel Spottswood. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted children, and grandchildren: Barbara Ann Mayo and husband Mike; grandson Joshua Mayo, his wife Natalie and great-granddaughters Everleigh and Holland; grandson Hunter Mayo, his wife Kate and great-granddaughter Harper; his son Rob Spottswood and wife Janet; and her daughters Haley Cooper and husband Trey; and Jenna Jackson, Trevin Warren and son Wyatt. Bob attended Central High School in Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma graduating with a BS in Petroleum Engineering which launched his exciting career as an engineer for Shell Oil, and later with Pelto and Enstar Oil companies. Upon graduating from college, Bob served in Korea in 1954-55 as a commanding officer in charge of a pipeline engineering company. Before returning to the United States, he took part in an aid program to rebuild an orphanage and church in Korea. Bob worked on oil and gas industry projects in 20+ states and 14 foreign countries. While working for Shell 30 years, he and Barbara moved 20 times in their marriage. Each move produced lasting friendships across the country. In 1966, Bob received an assignment to work overseas in Holland. This experience launched their desire to travel the world. Bob had a passion for proclaiming the saving grace of Jesus. His Christian mission work included going to Brazil, Argentina, Latvia, England, Scotland, Russia, Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Hawaii Baptist Academy sharing his salvation experience while speaking, teaching and encouraging others. He also shared his Christian faith in the Need Him Ministries Program in Dallas. A graveside service was held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City on August 22, 2020. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church Richardson on Friday, September 18 at 2:00pm, 1001 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas 75080.
