Sarah Catherine "Cathy" Shields, 93, died at Signature Pointe in Dallas on August 19, 2026, after a long illness. Cathy was born in Dallas on August 2, 1933, to Monroe E. Clinton and Sarah C. Clinton.
She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1951. After graduating from SMU, she taught English and art in the Richardson Public Schools for her entire 37-year career. Cathy was a prolific painter in watercolor, pastels, oil, and acrylic. When outside, she almost always commented, “I’ve never seen clouds like that before!” and we often laugh about this and love so many other comments and observations she had.
Playing the piano was another favorite activity, and Cathy played daily until age 91. An everyday habit was reading books and newspapers. And watching the Dallas Cowboys was a constant during football season.
Her laugh was infectious, and she enjoyed clever greeting cards, especially if they were about cats. Cathy adopted several stray cats. Her favorite cat, "Gray," loved to sit on the piano while she played.
She was a member of First Baptist Richardson and loved being a member of the Joy class. Cathy was a generous soul and would help out anyone in need. Her outlook was optimistic, and she usually had a smile on her face. Cathy was a grateful, loyal, and joyful lady who will be greatly missed this side of Heaven. But we are rejoicing that she is now in her eternal home with Jesus and with all the saints who have gone before her. We will see her again one day!
Cathy is predeceased by her husband, Volney Shields, and her brother, Charles M. Clinton. She had no children and is survived by two nieces, Terry and Wendy.
In keeping with the family's wishes, Cathy's service will be held in private.
