Sharon McCarthy passed away on August 31, 2023. She was 79 years old. Sharon is survived by her three children Debbie, Michael, and Bonnie; and her three grandchildren Adam, Michael, and Jeremy. She is also survived by her sister Dolores Hammell and brothers Mickey Conroy and Ronnie Conroy.
Sharon never remarried after the death of her husband Mike, who predeceased her by 50 years. The loss of her husband Mike was a blow. Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort in knowing that Mike and Sharon are together again.
Mom entered the workforce after being widowed at the young age of 29. She worked as a secretary while raising her three children. She played the role of mother and father in a time when that wasn't common. Sharon was known for her exciting casino trips, sewing, and bowling. She loved being a grandmother and embraced every moment with her grandchildren.
While Mom remained active in her retirement, she left behind a very dysfunctional family that she was very proud of. Mom was world-renowned for her lack of patience, not holding back her opinion, and sneaking off to the casino when she shouldn't. She believed in undercooking everything and made you scared to eat her food.
Mom was a devoted but questioning Roman Catholic, who spent countless hours buying rosaries, saints, and wings. She loved a bargain and would and would always find a discount. Mom was an avid knick-knack collector, especially Indians and lighthouses and we have proof.
"You can shed tears that she is gone. Or you can smile because she has lived."
