Thomas R. Holland, 87, of Richardson, Texas, passed away on October 5, 2014. He was born to Leo and Josephine Holland on January 23, 1927 in Kane, Pennsylvania. After being baptized there at St. Callistus Catholic Church, he grew and collected stories about life in a small railroad town in the Alleghenies. Tom graduated from Kane High School and left to serve in the military, both the Navy and Air Force as a Pharmacist’s Assistant during WWII. After the war, he attended and received a BBA from the University of Notre Dame in 1953.
While at ND, he met the love of his life, a “townie”, Alta Johnson. They were married at the Sacred Heart Church on campus on January 16, 1954 in the middle of a snow storm. They moved to Springfield, IL and then to Fort Wayne, IN and finally to Dallas, TX, where he worked in banking software for IBM, as a Vice President of Indiana Bank, and in positions with EDS, and CitiCorp. They also raised their five children, Thomas Joseph, James, Christopher, Ann and David, who were the pride of his life.
Tom’s joy continued to grow as each of these children married --Joe and Sandi are now in Davis, CA, Jim and Sue, in Burlington, WI, Chris and Terri, and Ann and Jim Tucker all of Plano TX and David and Clair in Racine WI and they welcomed grandchildren. His west coast grandchildren include Amanda, Laura and Patrick. Tom’s Midwest grandchildren are Jeremy and his wife, Kate, Carrie, Harrison and Helene. His Texas grandchildren are Eric, Emily and Will.
While his favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends, Tom had been a troop leader in the Boy Scouts, and contributed his talents to Sertoma, American Bankers Association, and Crime Watch, and served on the Emeritus Board at Richland Community College. He also had a passion for Notre Dame football, writing poetry and travel.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years: Alta; his children and their spouses, and his grandchildren, along with his sister, Romaine Montgomery of Phoenix AZ and many nieces and nephews and good friends. Through his life he grieved the loss of his parents, and siblings: Joan and Leo and several dear friends and colleagues.
