Joseph Yung Yang Tshoi passed away at the age of 95 on October 4, 2025, at Baylor Plano Hospital in Texas. He leaves behind a legacy of deep faith, unwavering generosity, and a lifetime dedicated to serving others.
Joseph was a devoted husband to his wife Mei, with whom he shared over 55 years of marriage — a true partnership built on mutual support, commitment, and enduring love. He is survived by Mei, their daughter Wendy in Texas, their son in China; granddaughters Janet and Rachel, three grandsons in China; and two great-grandsons Reggie and Russell, along with two more great-grandchildren in China.
Joseph earned his Philosophy Degree in 1956 and his Theology Degree in 1960, from the Regional Seminary of South China. He then devoted more than a decade to the church work in Malaysia, where he helped establish a thriving Youth Ministry. His guidance left a lasting impact on many students — several of whom, now in their 70s, continued to stay in touch with him throughout the years.
Joseph lived in China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the United States, carrying with him a deep connection to the Catholic Church wherever he went. He was an active and long-time member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Chinese Parish in Texas, known for his deep devotion, his acts of charity, and his humble embodiment of Christian values. He lived his faith daily — giving freely of his time and resources to help others, and always leading with kindness, faith, and love.
He was a cheerful person, always with smiles on his face, and was known for his warmth and hospitality to others. Joseph enjoyed sharing international cuisine with family and friends — from fried chicken and steamed fish to Dim Sum, durian, and Hainan chicken rice. He made every guest feel special, always offering tea, fruits, and a good glass of wine.
A dedicated family man, Joseph lovingly supported his wife, children, grandchildren in Plano Texas, after he and his wife moved to the United States in 1997. And during his time working as an accountant in the construction industry in Hong Kong, he assisted many family relatives from China in immigrating there for better opportunities, and frequently sent back medicine and supplies to rural China relatives— a reflection of his boundless care and generosity.
Joseph’s life was a testament to faith, service, and love. His example continues to inspire those who knew him.He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
