

Mrs. Almeter Watson-Ashford, age 93, of Richmond, California passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was born in Monroe, LA, the third of four children comprised of two boys and two girls, to James and Marie Watson. At the age of two, the family relocated to Little Rock, AK, where she completed her education. In 1949, she met and married George Ashford.
In pursuit of better life opportunities, Almeter made the significant decision to move to CA in 1951. Ultimately, she settled in San Francisco, CA; however, it was Richmond, CA where she found her home on Potrero Avenue and resided for an impressive 46 years.
Almeter dedicated 33 years of unwavering service to San Francisco General Hospital, specializing in Sterile Processing, before retiring in 1991. Even in retirement, she continued to extend her caring nature as a private caregiver until making it official and retired in 2005.
A devoted member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, ALmeter actively served the Lord, the church, and the community. Her involvement included contributions to the Nurses Ministry, Outreach Ministry, and the Culinary Ministry.
An enthusiastic bowler since the late 1970's, Almeter earned a reputation as a skilled and respected player among her peers on various teams. She shared a passion for casino outings, often showcasing her money-hand and hitting BIG. She also loved to sing. Almeter's affection for animals was evident through her beloved pet dogs and birds.
On Sunday, January 7, the Lord called Almeter home to reunite with her husband, George, alongside her devoted parents, sister Pearline, and brothers John, Sr. and Herbert, Sr. Welcoming her with open arms also her cherished fur babies, Precious and Puncho, who held a special place in her heart, and her longtime companion, Percy Gallon. In this divine reunion, may their spirits find eternal peace and serenity.
To cherish her memory, Almeter leaves behind her fur baby Gino, goddaughters Joanna "Peaches" Peppars and Tauheedah Taylor, and best friends Vivian Brinkley and Louise Sanders. Additionally, she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
