Amelia Lanette (Williams) Griffin was born on September 23, 1942, in El Dorado, Arkansas to the parentage of Ed and Cleaster Williams. She was affectionately called Mia. On Thursday afternoon March 14, 2024, Amelia received a summons from her earthly house to her mansion just over the hilltop, on the eternal streets of glory.
After moving to California, Amelia confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized. Being led by the spirit, she later saw fit to attend weekly bible studies with the Jehovah Witness until God called her home.
Amelia grew up in Richmond, California. She attended the public schools of Contra Costa County and graduated from Richmond High School and attended Contra Costa College. She met and married the late Oscar Griffin in 1961 and remained married for 58 years until his death in 2019. From this union, three sons were born. Oscar Jr., Anthony and LaVelle Griffin.
She worked various jobs and eventually retired from Thrift Town after many years of service.
Amelia was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Griffin, her parents; Ed and Cleaster Williams, her son; LaVelle Griffin, grandson; Shawn Griffin, her sisters; Edwina Gulley, Delores Shull and brother Travis Williams.
Amelia leaves to cherish her memories; her sons, Oscar Jr and Anthony (Traci) Griffin, sister; Vera Williams of Los Angeles, grandchildren’s; Devionce, DeAnthony, Kenisha and Antonia Griffin, great granddaughter; Kalia Griffin, goddaughters Dina McDonald and Dana Brookins, sister-in-laws; Zenda (Dwight) Johnson, Coretta Grayson and Mamie Johnson, brother-in-law; Edmond Johnson Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many devoted friends.
