Our dearest Arla Mae Bowles, respected daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, aunt - aka "Humpty", cousin, colleague, friend, and a very deeply loved mother and grandmother, was born November 11th, 1973 in the Bay Area of California to Charles Bowles and Eloise Ross - both of whom preceded her in death.
Her kindness, often understated, and her presence lingered - and even now, each of us are reminded by her big personality and equally sizable heart. She had a kind of zeal for life that led her to trying many, many new things, going on many, many adventures, and taking many, MANY photos to capture her joy. She was always into something and lived way outside of her fears. She did live. She did also love and when baby boy Bailey popped up on the scene, she was indeed in love! So many memories - and prayers all the more needed for the days to come!
Arla, the Academic, received her Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling, and held different professional and entrepreneurial roles. A published author, with a profound way with words. Before all of that she flew high as a Kennedy Eagle - proudly representing the class of 1991!
Arla loved life, even in the midst of hardship, she continued to soar. Her laughter, her song, her dance we will hold close as we mourn her passing. She is already missed will be as time passes on...
Arla is survived by her son, Bailey Maurice Thomas and a granddaughter, Aar'zauni; her sister, Sabrina Blackburn and husband Clenton Blackburn; her brother, Tommy L. Ross, Jr.; nieces, Shuniqua L. Guss, Tolani Denise Taja King, and great niece Kanani Shelton. Her nephews Mario Shelton and wife Shameen Shelton, Tony L. Reynolds, Martin "Boss" King, and great nephews Mario Shelton, Jr. and Isaiah L. Reynolds; her dear cousin Joseph "Joe Joe" Watson, Jr., and a host of dearly loved aunts, uncles, cousins, and without a doubt, her friends.
Arla was preceded in death by her sister, LaSandra D. Guss and brother, Charles Bowles, Jr., niece, Tamika Bowles, and nephew Marcus Syess, and her beloved granny - Mae Willie Bowles.
Arla's Repast will be held following the service at the Moose Lodge # 550 located at 4660 Appian Way,
El Sobrante, CA 94803.
