

Howard James Murphy Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 4th, 2012, after a brief illness. Howard was born in Vallejo, California, on July 1, 1929 to Harry and Anna Murphy. As a teenager, during WWII, he worked on Mare Island Naval Base and graduated from St Vincent's High School. In 1952, Howard earned his BS Degree, Pharmacy, from the University of California, Berkeley. Upon graduation, he served his country as a US Army Officer in Korea, earning many awards including the United Nations and Korean Service Medal. After a 50 year career as a Hospital Pharmacist, he continued his interest in Pharmacy, serving on the board of the Marin County Pharmacy Association and Pharmacists Planning Services Inc (PPSI). In addition, he was selected and enjoyed serving on the Marin County Civil Grand Jury. Howard was an advocate for senior healthcare education as a registered volunteer counselor for the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP). He was a lifelong Bay Area Sports fan. He and his wife were dedicated Cal Football fans, attending games for over 40 years. When not at his home in Larkspur, he enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Lake County, CA, with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Aileen, of 52 years, children Mike, Lisa, Katy and Jon and grandchildren Erin, Clara, Christen, Sarah, Jim, Maureen, Caroline, Anna, Robert, Molly, Elizabeth, Bridgette and Emily. The visitation Rosary will be at Keatons Mortuary, San Rafael, CA, March 9, 2012. Visitation at 7:00 PM, Rosary at 8:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial March 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM at St. Patrick's Church, Larkspur, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA or a charity of your choice .
