She was born on December 21, 1945 to Clifton Baten and Nancy V. (Hawkins) Baten. She was the eldest of two children. She attended Coronado Elementary School and Harry Ells High School; both in Richmond, CA. She also attended San Francisco State University for nursing. She soon discovered that nursing was not her forte and started working for the City of Richmond where she worked for 35 years. Her first job was a Recreational Leader working her up to become an Assistant Administrative Analyst, a title she held until her retirement in 2003.
At the age of five, along with her parents, she united with the Providence Baptist Church in 1950. They later became members of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where she continued to be a member until her death. Jacquie, as she was affectionately called, was a woman who wore many hats within the church. If you were thinking of getting married, Jacquie was the Wedding Coordinator that you would want. She coordinated many weddings for members as well as, non-members. We cannot forget the Tom Thumb Weddings that she performed. A woman of honor and beauty, you would find her sharing her wisdom with The Women of Grace auxiliary. “I sing because I’m happy.” Jacquie let her voice be heard singing in the choir. Her tenor voice (yes, tenor) praising Him through song. For those that were new to the St. Luke family, she shared her knowledge of Christ as the Orientation Teacher along with her mother. She also shared her talents by helping in the kitchen with the culinary staff. When it came to fashion, Jacquie had the eye for it. If you ever wondered who dressed Pastor and Sister Green, and Pastor Stewart for the anniversaries, look no further. She provided her expertise “buy” serving on the Anniversary Committee.
Jacquie lived her life to the fullest and she loved her family dearly. She was always there when you needed her, day or night. Like her mother, Nancy Baten, Jacquie would welcome you into her arms, heart, and home. She was a mother, daughter, friend, sister, aunt, confidant, and would do whatever she could to help you. Her belief in God kept her loving and caring like Mary of Nazareth, a faithful follower like Mary Magdalene, courageous and brave like Esther, unwavering faith and bravery like Ruth, and compassionate Like Deborah. She was humble, happy, kind, strong, determined, steadfast, glorious, graceful, faithful, fearless, and generous.
A public viewing for Jacqueline will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fuller Funerals, Inc, 3100 Cutting Blvd, Richmond, CA 94804. A celebration of life will occur Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke MB Church, 165 S 7th St, Richmond, CA 94804.
