James Edward Mack our beloved father, son, and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 63 on August 21, 2026. Born on August 6, 1963, in Oakland California, James was the beloved son of Rev Melvin Mack (M.L.) and Earlean L. Mack.
From an early age, James was known for his ability to make people laugh, his love for meeting new people, his adventurous spirit, and his willingness to try something new. James was a source of love and warmth to everyone who knew him. James’s kindness, generosity, and gentle nature touched the lives of many.
After graduating from high school, James built a legacy through his accomplishments, hard work, and willingness to help others. He took great pride in completing the automotive service program at Contra Costa College, where he earned an Associate of Science degree. His passion for working on cars eventually became an important part of both his career and his life.
James worked as an automotive technician and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance with their vehicle. He took great pride in using his knowledge and skills to solve problems, make repairs, and help others whenever he could, often without expecting anything in return. His love for working on cars began at a young age alongside his father and brothers. What started as time spent learning and working together eventually grew into a lifelong passion and career. James later passed that knowledge down to the next generation, even teaching his youngest daughter how to put on tires and change brake pads. For James, working on cars was more than just a skill or a way to make a living; it was something that connected him to his family, gave him a sense of purpose, and allowed him to share a part of himself with the people he loved. Those early experiences helped shape the strong-minded, determined, generous, and caring man he became.
James was a strong spiritual man who attended to Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church from a young age alongside his mother and siblings. He believed that some of the best ways to enjoy life were to travel, laugh, experience new things, and keep family close. His family is grateful for the many values and life lessons he instilled in them. No matter a person's age or how long they knew James, he had a way of leaving them with a memory to cherish. His family finds comfort knowing that the lessons, laughter, stories, and memories he created will continue to live on.
Outside of work and service to others, James found joy in music, traveling, barbecuing and spending time with loved ones, and seeking new adventures—including experiences such as flying in helicopters. He loved his three children deeply and often spoke highly of them and about how proud he was of each of them.
Those who knew James will remember his sense of humor, warm smile, storytelling, generosity, strong-minded personality, and determination. Whether he was meeting someone new, telling a story, working on a car, dancing, listening to music, or spending time with family and friends, James brought his own unforgettable personality wherever he went.
He is preceded in death by his dearly beloved mother Earlean and father, Rev Melvin, his beloved sisters, Polly, Gwen, Velma, his beloved brothers, Melvin and Michael.
Jame’s greatest joy in life came from being a father and grandfather. He leaves his beloved children; Recquel (Michael), Reuel (Kyle), and Recququel Mack, 1 grandchild, his brothers Jerry, (Wanda), Fred, Ted, his sisters, Tammy (Mickey), Connie (Conrad), a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and his friends to cherish his memories.
His family will forever cherish the love, guidance, laughter, life lessons, and countless memories he gave them.
James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. His life was a gift to his family, friends, and community, and his memory will continue to live on through the people he loved, the stories they share, the lessons he taught, and the values he held dear.
