Janis was born in Detroit, Michigan; raised in Pasadena, California and attended the University of Southern California where she earned degrees in Marketing and Education. After graduating she worked for the university marketing their High School Program. After marriage to Raymond Adams in 1961, she moved to Marin County and taught in the Dixie School District for 27 years. She was voted Teacher of the Year for Marin County in 1981. After retiring from teaching she joined and worked for several Marin charities and education groups. Janis Adams passed away after a prolonged illness with her husband at her side. She is survived by her husband, sister-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
