Jim passed away at his home in Novato shortly after a serenade and blessing were offered
for him. He endured a 19-year battle with Inclusion Body Myositis. He handled his
illness with courage and dignity. He was considered a hero by his friends for enduring
the years of diminished physical abilities, always keeping a positive outlook on life.
Jim is survived by his wife, Darlene, and daughters Christina and Angela, "favorite" son-
in-law Sam Hamilton and "very special" granddaughter, Brighton, who referred to him
lovingly as Papa Stick.
He was superseded in death by his sister, Patricia Dahlin. He leaves behind many nieces
and nephews and in-laws. He also leaves behind wonderful friends who remained by his
side throughout the years.
Jim worked for Hills Bros. Coffee/Nestle Beverage Co. For 30 years and retired in 1997.
In retirement he managed Western Sport Shop in Santa Rosa until 2000 when he could no
longer handle the physical responsibilities. He was an avid catch-and-release fisherman
and a true Giants fan. He enjoyed many vacations with family and friends.
If you wish to make a donation in his name, please consider The Myositis Foundation,
1737 King Street, Suite 600, Alexandria, VA 22314.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 8 at 1:00 p.m. At The Key
Room, 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway (past Marin Airporter), Novato.
