Joan Gernetzke Roberts

Joan was born August 18, 1929 in Marshfield, Wisconsin to Reinhold and Lucille Gernetzke. Her family moved out West and made their home in Sausalito around 1940. Joan attended Tamalpais High School and College of Marin where she met her husband, William Roberts Jr. of Mill Valley.

She began a career with the US Army Presidio in the Command and General Staff College and War College. This career would end when her only daughter, Marcee was born.

Joan soon moved to Marinwood where she made her home for over 30 years. She began a career in Real Estate during the early 1960’s which would prove to be her passion for more than 40 years.

Joan served as a member of the Marin Association of Realtors for over 40 years. A member of the Board of Directors M.A.R. for 4 years and a proud Board member of the Frank Lloyd Wright Conservancy. Joan also was active with Catholic Social Service through the years.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Reinhold and Lucille Gernetzke, her brother, Thomas R. Gernetzke and ex-husband, William Roberts Jr.

Joan is survived by her devoted daughter, Marcee Roberts Ferguson and son -in-law, Richard A. Ferguson of Palos Verdes, California. Her loving granddaughters, Ashley E. Ferguson and Paige B. Ferguson of Palos Verdes, California. She is also survived by her brother, David Gernetzke and sister-in-law, Joanna Gernetzke of Novato. Her nieces and nephew, Anne Gernetzke Larson, Juliana Gernetzke Duggan, Amy Gernetzke, Daniel Gernetzke and their spouses and children.

On Wednesday, March 16, 2016 there will be a Rosary at 7:00pm, Keatons Mortuary of San Rafael, 1022 E. Street, San Rafael, CA 94901.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Isabella’s Church, 1 Trinity Way, San Rafael, CA 94903.
