.F. "Jack" Doherty Jan 20, 1920-June 28, 2013 John F. "Jack" Doherty of San Rafael passed away peacefully on June 28, 2013 at his home at Nazareth House. Jack was born in San Francisco and was proud to hail from the Mission District, where he graduated from Mission High School in 1938. His high school graduation yearbook noted that he "likes to listen to the radio" which understated his lifelong love of music (especially all things Sinatra) and foretold his destiny to marry a like-minded music lover and soul mate, his wife of sixty-three years, Mary, also a native San Franciscan. Jack met Mary in that short period between high school graduation and the beginning of the conflict that was World War II, when Jack enlisted. He spent three and a half years in the Aleutian Islands guarding our shores. When he returned, he soon was engaged to Mary. After the war Jack also began a long career in the commercial insurance industry. He became a commuter to the City when in 1948 he and Mary moved to Marin, purchased a home and started their family. Jack retired when he was 63 ("too young" he would later say). He avidly played tennis and golf, and was active in the Marin Chapter of the Sons in Retirement, where he held several officer positions including President. Jack is survived by his two sons, Greg and Brian, grandchildren Alison Hull and Cameron Doherty, and three great grandchildren. A celebratory mass will be held at Nazareth House in San Rafael on Wednesday July 3 at 10:30 AM. For more information go to: www.keatonfunerals.com
