A Legacy of Service & Righteousness
Mother Nancy Louise Moore-Bumpus was born May 23, 1939, in Athens, Alabama to the parentage of Clarence & Willie Louise Moore who both proceeded her in death in 1994 & 2015 respectively. She received her promotion to Eternity with Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
She was the oldest girl of 13 children and was like a second mother to many of her siblings. It was her job to cook, clean and make fires for the family from age of 8 years old. She was educated in the Athens City Schools system and attended the historic “Trinity High School” a racially segregated school.
December 19, 1959, Nancy married Grant Bumpus, Jr. He swept her off her feet. It was love at first sight. He proceeded her in death July 4, 1994. They were married for 35 wonderful years. She never worked for a lengthy period of time, because her husband desired for her to be a “Homemaker”. She was a consummate cook, fashion designer and trendsetter. It was very rare, on Sunday morning not to see her with a hat, purse and shoes to match her outfits.
Mother Bumpus and her family later moved to Akron, Ohio where she united with the Yale Street AOH Church of God under the leadership of the late Overseer Azell & Mother Mary Cooley (Ayers). This is the place where she was filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The family later relocated to Richmond, California and they united with the 23rd Street AOH Church of God (now the Faith Tabernacle AOH), under the leadership of the late Bishop George & late Mother Verley Ayers. Mother Bumpus and her family sowed many tangible seeds into this local ministry. She and her husband spearheaded renovations and upgrades to many different parts of the facility. The previous “altar” was purchased and dedicated in the memory of her late son, Willard.
After the death of her husband she moved back to Athens, Alabama to be closer to her family. Mother then served at the Victory Temple AOH Church (Greater St. Stephen AOH) in Huntsville, Alabama. In the year 2007 she relocated back to California to assist her second born son, Overseer Walter Moore at the Mt. Moriah AOH Church in Sacramento.
Mother Bumpus was a faithful and loyal supporter to every ministry and pastor that she served. Her many titles included: Chairwoman of the Trustee Board, President of the Missionaries, Shepherd Mother and others too numerous to name.
She was a counselor for many of the saints and God used her to bring peace to the minds of God’s people. She did not allow anything to block her commitment to God and his Church. She was anointed to do the work of the office of “Teacher” in the Lord’s Church. She taught through the Word of God and by precept and example. She always took an opportunity to tell anybody that they needed to be saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.
Her kindness and gentleness will always be remembered. She took in many saints into her own home, who needed to seek refuge from the tumults of life. She was a “Mother” in every sense of the word.
Mother Bumpus was also proceeded in death by her oldest son, Willard Eugene Moore in 1983, her granddaughter Kiara Moore in 2023, brother Edward Moore in 2002, brother Thomas (Emma) Moore in 2014 and, a sister Gwendolyn Spears in 2016.
She leaves to cherish her righteous legacy; one daughter; Psalmist Wanda Bumpus Williams, three sons; Overseer Walter (Lady Monica) Moore, Maestro Joey (Psalmist Doris) Bumpus, Sr., & Pastor Jonathan (Lady Tiffany) Bumpus. 12 grandchildren; Tyshenna Moore, Terrance (Trina) Moore, Ariel Moore, Dominic Moore, Joey Bumpus, Jr., Tremiyya Bumpus, Britney Mullins, Ashlee Williams, Brittany Williams, Courtney Williams, Grant Bumpus, III, & Annalise Bumpus. 6 great-grandchildren; Karis Williams, Marlow Williams, M’Zuri Kugonza, Selah Bumpus, Savanah Moore & Kenonte Ramsey. 6 sisters; Frances Malone, Linda Yvonne Moore, Linda Joyce Harris, Gloria (Kenneth) Townsend, Carolyn (James) Williams, & Amorita (Michael) Rather. 3 brothers; Billie Moore, Preston Moore & Charles (Tatia) Moore and a host of other relatives and friends.
