Tru Lei Butcher

June 14, 2003May 29, 2021

Tru Lei Butcher, age 17, of Hampton, Virginia passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021. He was born on June 14, 2003, in Berkeley, CA to Marcella Lane and Robert Butcher.

Tru was extremely sweet, loving and caring person who touched every person he came in contact with. He ran track, played basketball, and was extremely passionate about music. He had an old soul with a very bright, uplifting spirit.

Tru started attending church as a child and he was drawn to Minster James Edwards. Every time he would see Minster Edwards he would follow him around and ask a lot of questions and would not stop until he got his answers. His curiosity is why he was so intelligent.

Tru attended school in Richmond School District until 2020 when he moved to Virginia. He would've been graduating with the “Class of 2021” and celebrating his 18th birthday.

Tru’s Richmond, California peers says that he was the light of everyone’s life. He was very energetic, kind-hearted and would give the shirt off his back if needed. His Virginia peers and teachers say that although they just meet him he was well liked, made a huge presence and he truly made Bethel High School a better and more exciting place.

Tru’s family will remember him for his intelligence, his goofiness, his smile and his love... We’re going to miss those frequent phone calls just to say, “I Love you”.

Tru leaves to cherish his memories, his mother Marcella Lane, father Robert Butche; his sisters & brothers: Dezarae Williams, Diamond Williams, Franchena Rosebud, Tatiana Butcher, Joshua Butcher, Robert Butcher III, Lejon Butcher, Marquis Butcher, Jayden and Ryan Butcher, Darryl Lewis and Andre Berry. Grandmothers: LaJean Edwards Cox and Jackie Ridgle. One Aunt: Eva Butcher and four uncles: Taiwan Ridgle, Alex Williams, Marquieth Williams and Maurice Edwards. His T.T., Salimu. Five nieces and five nephews. Three very special cousins Tyronay Davis, Tyrone Ridgle and Ja’Khauri Armstrong, and a very large host of cousins, extended family and friends.

ALWAYS my Swoos Swoos I loved him immediately, he broke the ice for the friendship I'll have for life with his mom. It was a privelage to get to know him, he lived everyday to the fullest, brought smiles right on time wit texts, had jokes he laughed at harder than anybody, Such a beautiful soul, just like his mom, a heart of gold and very caring. Tru will always be remembered by everyone that knew him.♥️
