Thelma Letitia Johnson

Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 16th at Forest Park Southwest Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Hayden of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Katy, Texas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Southwest cemetery.

Thelma was born on the beautiful island of St.Vincent and the Grenadines, West Indies in the village of Mesopotamia, to Veronica DaSouza and Jacob Johnson on April 13, 1936.

She attended Marriaqua Government School. Before migrating to the United States, she was a qualified assistant teacher in her country. She graduated from The University of the West Indies with a degree in teaching, She received her bachelors degree in Accounting at Cambridge University. She received her Masters in education at Brooklyn College. She worked at Johnson & Higgins from 1979-1989. Her love for teaching drove her to continue being an educator where she went on to work as a teacher in the New York City Public School system from 1989 until her retirement.

She was a staunch member of the Anglican/Episcopal church. She was involved in numerous organizations to name a few, pianist, Sunday school teacher, church lector, member of the LEM and ECW, beginning and St. Phillip Anglican Church St. Vincent and the Grenadines, then at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church Brooklyn, New York.

Thelma is preceded in death by both of her parents, her siblings Eileen McMillan, Daphne and Roy Barryea, and Henry and Eric Johnson.

Thelma is survived by her daughter Arlene Patricia Johnson-George, Son-inlaw Brent George, her sister Esther Da Souza, Grandsons Delano and Aderemi (AJ), nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, godchildren, many other relatives, close friends and co-workers.
