Thomas Paul Belis

Tom was born in Baden, Pennsylvania, on September 25, 1955, to Paul Belis and Joyce Copenhaver. He graduated from Ambridge High School in 1973 and went on to earn a degree in Geology from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1981, Tom joined Cabot Oil & Gas, now Coterra Energy, where he spent more than three decades working alongside exploration and engineering teams to identify promising drilling sites. His work with Cabot took him and his family across the country, including Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas. He was known for his sharp instincts and steady judgment, qualities that made him a trusted voice on every team he worked with. In 2014, Tom retired from Cabot and became an independent geological consultant, a move that let him keep doing the work he loved on his own terms. He never lost his Pennsylvania roots and closely followed the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates his whole life. An avid golfer, Tom proudly served in multiple leadership roles at Willow Fork Country Club in Katy, TX, including several years as President of the Men’s Golf Association.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Paul Belis, and his sister, Paula Joy LaNeve.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Goodhart, of Katy, Texas; his daughter, Erica Jo Andrews (Jason), of Fort Collins, Colorado; his son, Nicholas Wasyl Belis (Christina), of Davidson, North Carolina; and his daughter, Crystal Elizabeth Belis, of Aurora, Colorado. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Cooper Jason, Isabella Joyce, and Evelyn Jane Andrews, of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Ada Joyce and Eleanor Joan Belis, of Davidson, North Carolina.

Also surviving are his mother, Joyce Belis, of Zelienople, Pennsylvania; his sister, Tina Marie Belis (Joseph P. Hickey), of Oak Ridge, New Jersey; and his brother-in-law, Mark R. LaNeve, of Metamora, Michigan.

Tom will be remembered for his love of reading and all things Pittsburgh, as well as his tenacity and his “Won't Back Down” attitude.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for Katy, TX as well as Pittsburgh, PA. Dates and times will be shared as planning is completed.
