Born on August 30, 1936, in Morefield, West Virginia, to the late Luther G. See and Nora Lillian Foltz See. Allen grew up in Laurel Hill, Virginia, and graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, Virginia. He proudly served his country for four years in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant in the Military Police and serving as a personal guard to General August Schomburg.
Following his military service, Allen built a successful career as a real estate broker. He also shared his knowledge and experience as an adjunct instructor of real estate at Blue Ridge Community College and Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Virginia.
To those who knew him, Allen was truly a gentle giant. His kindness, generosity, and easygoing nature made everyone feel welcome, while his wonderful sense of humor and gift for storytelling could bring laughter to any gathering. Allen never met a stranger. He had a genuine interest in others and a natural ability to make people feel at ease. He was patient, thoughtful, and generous to a fault, always willing to give of himself to those around him.
Allen embraced life’s simple pleasures. He loved good food, good company, and a good joke. He enjoyed traveling, making his own wine, tending to his beloved roses, and planting flowers. His faith was also an important part of his life. At Shady Grove United Methodist Church, he faithfully served as an usher and enjoyed attending Bible study. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends. Even during the most difficult times, Allen never lost his sense of humor or his positive spirit. When asked how he was feeling, even when he was very ill, his response was always the same: “Tippy top.” Those little words perfectly captured the warmth, resilience, and humor that made him so special.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ella See; his sons, Randall See (Alejandra), Jeff See (Erika), and Gary See (Aracelis); his stepdaughters, Angela Messer and Christina Lorusso; his grandchildren, Isabella See, Lauren See, Julia Messer, Olivia Messer, Davis Messer, Ava Messer, Anthony Lorusso, and Michael Lorusso; and his sister, Nancy Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther G. See and Nora Lillian Foltz See.
A memorial Service celebrating Allen’s life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23229. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Allen had a way of making ordinary moments memorable, whether through a story, a shared laugh, or a simple act of kindness. He gave generously, loved deeply, and found joy in the people around him. While he will be greatly missed, the warmth and happiness he brought to others will never be forgotten.
