

With great sadness, we announce the death of our mother Dr. Ann Turner Chapin, 88, of Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Chapin passed away peacefully at her home on September 3, 2025. Born on April 7, 1937, to Charles V. Turner and Betsy L. Turner, Ann grew up in Richmond and attended Thomas Jefferson High School. Subsequently she attended several colleges, including Bennington College, Vermont, Philips University, Oklahoma, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of Virginia, before earning her Doctorate of Education from Virginia Tech. She dedicated much of her career to Richmond Public Schools, serving as a counselor at Thompson Middle School and later at Lucille Brown Middle School until her retirement. Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed reading, watching old movies, Walking in the mall with her friends and spending time with her beloved cat, Stella. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children Chris Chapin (Debbie) and Carey Rowland (Ric); and her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. A private service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville, VA.
