Barbara A. Kiesel passed away peacefully Tuesday July 21, 2026, at the age of 77. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Captain Theodore James Banvard USN (Ret) and Virginia N. Banvard and her brother Cmdr. James Banvard USN Reserves. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Gregory Kiesel, son Robert P. Kiesel (Stephanie), daughter Denise Snodgrass (Rob Ed) and 5 grandchildren Lauren Kiesel Shumaker (Aaron), Shelby Kiesel, Sophia Kiesel, Courtney Snodgrass and Jacob Snodgrass and 4 siblings Mary Lou Briggs, Richard Banvard (Sunny), Larry Banvard (Kathy) and Dr. Christine Banvard-Fox (Marc). Born March 21, 1949, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, she was a Navy brat living in various places around the US until the family settled in Kensington, MD when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Walter Johnson High School in 1967. She and Greg settled in Waldorf, Maryland in 1981 and remained there until 2020 when they relocated to Richmond, VA to be closer to their daughter while Barbara underwent cancer treatment. Barbara was dearly loved by all those that knew her. She will be missed. A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Woody’s Funeral Home - Parham Road August 28, 2026, starting at 11 am. with internment at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
