Barbara Taylor Stone, age 87, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026. Barbara was born in Salem, VA to the late William Frederick and Tessie Jeanete Taylor, and is preceded in death by her sister Dorothy (Jack) Richards. Barbara is survived by her husband of 57 years, Oliver Johnson Stone, her sons Taylor (Amy) Stone and Robert (Rachel) Stone, and her grandchildren Ethan and Jennifer Stone.
After graduating from high school, Barbara moved to Richmond to attend Stewart Circle Hospital School of Nursing. She later worked for an obstetrician in Richmond as a registered nurse. After meeting her beloved Ollie, the two married and began their family in Manakin.
A resident of Manakin, Barbara actively served her community. She was a member of the Manakin Homemakers Club and the Goochland Women’s Club, where she was chairwoman of the annual fashion show. Barbara and Ollie were members of Dover Baptist Church where Barbara served as Music Director and Organist for 16 years.
Barbara was kind and generous, with a deep love for family and friends. She especially cherished her two grandchildren and found great joy in watching them grow into young adults. Family vacations in Myrtle Beach were filled with fun, sun, snacks, and special time with Grandma. Barbara also looked forward to her annual Outer Banks beach week with friends, marked by laughter, sunscreen, and enough supplies to weather any storm. Her family lovingly joked about the endless Christmas meatballs, stacks of napkins, and a drawer full of colorful candlesticks, but those small details reflected Barbara’s love of tradition and the thoughtful touches that made every gathering feel special.
In recent months Ollie took over the caretaker role for the home and for Barbara. He knew what Barbara wanted before she asked and presented her with her daily morning tea. The two enjoyed quality time around the table with conversation while they shared their love of snacks. It’s a running joke that the Stone family eats for entertainment.
Barbara was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt to her family and an inspiration to all she met.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Goochland Cares or Wounded Warrior Project. A special thank you to the caregivers who provided not only care to Barbara, but compassion and love as if she were their own grandmother.
A Visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home, located at 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229, on June 16, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
