Bessie M Mitchell

Bessie Messer Mitchell, age 93, of Richmond was called home to be with her Lord on September 11, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis F. Mitchell, a son, David W. Mitchell, a daughter, Shirley M. Ayres, four brothers, and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances Shumaker and Martha M. Chalkley (Clyde), two sons, Lewis F. Mitchell, Jr. (Marilyn), and Wyatt D. Mitchell (Nikki), 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, and many other loving family and friends. Bessie loved God, her family, hymns (especially "This Little Light of Mine" and "I'll Fly away"), and cooking. She was a long-time member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The family thanks the staff at Lynmoore Assisted Living and Asera Hospice Care for their love and care.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N.
