He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Wall; daughter, Sandy Russell (Ken); son, Chuck Wall (Polly); grandchildren, Jennifer Graham (Kent), Christopher Russell, Stephen Russell, Abby Wall and Caroline Wall; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Graham and Carter Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rebekah Wall; and his sister, Jean Winfield.
He was a 1948 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He owned Ranny’s Esso on Grove Avenue and later River Road Exxon before spending the final 20 years of his career with a tax and accounting firm.
Ranny joined Northminster Baptist Church (then Barton Heights Baptist) on Easter Sunday, 1939. He served the church in many capacities, including as chair of the Board of Deacons, Executive Committee and Personnel Committee. He also served as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher and was a longtime member of the Appel Class. He remained an active church member his entire life, most recently as a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church.
A devoted husband, father and friend, he was never happier than when enjoying time with Helen, his family and his many friends.
He was an avid sports fan, and he especially enjoyed duckpin bowling and managing the church softball team. In retirement, he became a passionate golfer. Always full of energy and a compassionate spirit, he was a help and mentor to many along the way.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Derbyshire Baptist Church or Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation. The family would like to express its gratitude to Ranny’s dedicated caregiver, Tatyana Vilchinskaya.
