Charlotte Conner Brooks

passed away Tuesday, May 4, at age 91. She is survived by her husband Eugene C. Brooks, her daughter Deborah Brooks (Lisa Hawks), her sister Margaret Allen, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Frances Hicks and her parents Ernest and Bertha Conner. A graduate of John Marshall High School, Billie spent virtually her entire professional career (33 years) with IBM (and its subsidiaries and spin-offs). A charter member of Reveille United Methodist Church, she was active in the Frances Carroll Circle, the leisure club, and the UMW. The center of Billie’s life was her husband Gene. Next-door neighbors as children in Church Hill, they later married and recently celebrated their 71st anniversary. Together, they enjoyed cooking, gardening, sports (especially Duke basketball!) and traveling. Billie’s favorite travel spots were New Zealand, Maui, and her beach house in South Carolina. She was a “regular” at The Greenbrier, where she celebrated many special occasions (including her 70th wedding anniversary). During a recent hospitalization, Billie often expressed her love and appreciation for all of the friends and family who have remained in such close touch with her throughout her lifetime. Please know that she truly appreciated your kindness. A memorial service will be held graveside Saturday, May 8, at 12 noon at Westhamptom Memorial Park Cemetery.
