

He was born April 8, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia, a son of the late Mary Hazel McCullough and John Irving Courtney. He grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and graduated from John Marshall high school.
Dan served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the war, Dan married Deborah Paige Anderson on May 14, 1976. He worked many jobs throughout his life but was best known for his career at Kroger and being the union steward.
Throughout Dan’s life, he had an ability to always have a sense of humor in any situation. He also could strike up a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, pro wrestling, golf, and spending time with his grand kids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Courtney.
He is survived by his daughter Wendy Stamper, son Kevin Courtney and 5 grandchildren, Kayla Courtney, Reese and Brooke Stamper, Camden and Ryder Courtney. He is also survived by his brother, Ron Courtney.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N Parham Rd, Richmond, VA, 23229 with Visitation starting at 10 AM, Funeral Service at 12PM, and Graveside Burial at 3PM.
