Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us. On October 3, 2024, Delia Diaz de Tejada peacefully gained her wings to be with the Lord at age 79. Delia was residing with her daughter Dalia Tejada in Glen Allen, Virginia.
Delia was born in Bogotá, Colombia, her parents were Julia Duque and Luis Alfredo Diaz. She married José Aristides Tejada in Bogotá on August 6, 1965, and dedicated herself to caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and everyone she met, guided by her unshakable faith.
Delia's impact was felt far and wide, as she spread kindness, love, and advice wherever she went. She was the type of person who never met a stranger. Her acts of kindness, such as giving away her handmade jewelry and offering wise advice, were legendary. However, it was her prayers that truly set her apart. For 24 years, she was an active member of a prayer group, “Seeds of love for the neediest in our society,” in Colombia. Even after moving to Virginia, she continued to participate in their prayers virtually, demonstrating her selflessness and dedication to others.
Delia was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, godmother, and friend. She was a positive, generous, caring, kind, helpful, funny, and extremely honest person. Her role as a “mother hen” over her four children was a testament to her unwavering love and support. She was fiercely protective and always there for them, guiding them with wisdom and love. She was so proud of her children and their settling in the USA.
Delia's legacy lives on through the love and strength of her united family. She was predeceased by her husband, José Aristides Tejada. Still, her spirit thrives in her son, Dickmar Alejandro Tejada, and daughters Sandra Liliana Tejada, Dalia Yasmin Tejada, and Ana Maria Tejada-Kinnard. Her granddaughters Karin Vanessa Tejada and Lyla Mia Kinnard are a testament to her enduring love. Delia's sisters, Julia Diaz, Margarita Diaz, and her brother Fernán Diaz, and her extended family, carry her memory forward. Delia was predeceased by her brothers Francisco Diaz, Luis Fernán Diaz, and her sister Elsa Diaz, but their bond remains unbroken.
The service to honor Delia's life will be held at Woody Funeral Home-Parham Chapel on Saturday, October 19, at 11:00 am. We hope to see you there to celebrate her life and legacy. The address is 1771 N Parham Rd, Richmond, VA 23229.
Delia Diaz lived a life full of faith and love, a mother, grandmother and godmother for all this world cannot contain.
