

Born February 2, 1928, in Grand Island, Nebraska died September 8, 2023. A Richmond, Virginia resident for over 50 years began her career here in 1971 as an employee of the Richmond Newspapers Human Resource department. Because of her professionalism and many versatile talents, she became training supervisor in the Ad Production Department. From there, she moved to the Creative Services Department to support the artists. She then moved to Media General’s Corporate Communications Department as Composition Supervisor.
She worked on large projects with talented and exceptional team members; thoroughly enjoying her work. Well known for her constant dependability and great sense of humor. After her long tenure, she retired as a well-respected and endeared colleague. She retired in December 2002.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Paul J. Ahlin. Left to cherish her memory are her children Michael J. Ahlin, Richard J. Ahlin (Sharon), Craig J. Ahlin (Jennifer), Kimberly A. Wash (Kenneth), Stacie Yenney (Kurt); grandchildren Austin C. Ahlin, Brennan N. Ahlin, Ryan C. Ahlin (fiancé Jenna Ruby); Kirsten Y. Russow (Derek), Kyle Yenney (Marina Gibson). Great grandchildren Callan Gray Ahlin, Riley Russow, Allison Russow.
She enjoyed family gatherings, particularly holidays, birthdays, and thoroughly appreciated yearly invitations of family vacation trips to the beach in the summer with her grand kids and back home to Nebraska in the fall. She was a cooking dynamo, maintaining old family tradition recipes and introducing new recipes, especially Christmas cookies of all kinds. Enjoyed watching sports especially University of Nebraska Cornhusker football.
More than anything, she was devoted to her family; greatly loved her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service for Delores will be held Friday, September 22, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Woody Funeral Home-Parham, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229.
