Don Louis Burks Jr.

Don Louis Burks, Jr., 79, of Richmond, died on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dona Lou Burks. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann Lumpkin Burks; his children, Cheryl Burks Smith, Don Louis Burks III (Nancy), Julie Valinda Burks, Beverly Cooke Glendenning (Philip) and Robert "Butch" Cooke Jr.; his sister, Peggy Burks Koury (Dan); nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Burks served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. He worked at Baker's Shoe Store as a manager for 25 years and J.T.'s General Home Shopping Service for 20+ years before retiring. He was a member of the Richmond Lion's Club, American Legion and New Covenant Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 4, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, and where funeral services will be held Sunday, August 5, at 3 p.m. Interment to follow at Westhampton Memorial Park.
