Obituary of Edward T. Whitney
WHITNEY, Edward "Ed" Tuthill, 71, of Richmond, passed away March 1, 2013. Originally from Norfolk, Va., he was preceded in death by his parents, Linwood Franklin "Nip" and Grace Tuthill Whitney; and his siblings, Linwood Franklin Whitney Jr. and Mildred Karen Whitney. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Anne Rhodes Whitney; daughters, Karen Annette Whitney Riggs and Jennifer Rebecca Whitney Hull; sons-in-law, Duane F. Riggs and Jason R. Hull; and grandchildren, Drew Edward Shaffer, Whitney Anne Hull, David Rhodes Shaffer and Jamison Ray Hull. Ed, more commonly known as Honey, Daddy, Pop or Cap'n, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, son, brother and friend. Ed was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church for 47 years, served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves, was a homebuilder, an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan. His family was his number one priority and he was always willing to lend an ear or helping hand to anyone who needed it. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and was an encouragement to all who knew him. He was truly a "gentle"man. The best portion of a good man's life...his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindnesses and of love...that was Ed. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 4, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary at Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229. Reception to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Derbyshire Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Condolences may be left at woodyfuneralhomeparham.com.
