

OLIVER, Ellen Lee, 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in her home. She was born in Washington, DC to William Russell and Anna Thomas Lee on June 15, 1928. She was an only child and grew up in Harrisonburg, Va. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Henry “Paul” Oliver.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Oliver; a son, Scott Oliver and his wife, Lisa; four grandchildren, Christopher Bennett and his wife Ashley, Lauren Vass, Matthew Oliver and Morgan Oliver; one great grandson, Jackson Vass; and loyal friend, Cupcake.
Ellen graduated from Radford College in 1950. She taught kindergarten and first grade at Stonewall Jackson Elementary School, Mary Munford Elementary School and Trinity United Methodist Church. She also taught Sunday School at Trinity United Methodist Church. Ellen was a member of the Tuckahoe Junior Women’s Club, the Tuckahoe Women’s Club and the Hermitage Country Club Women’s Nine-Hole Golf group. She was also a member of various Bridge clubs, Bible Study groups and the Richmond Gentry.
She was a longtime active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where there will be a memorial service on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 1pm with a reception immediately following. There will be a visitation the evening before from 6 to 8pm, Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N Parham Rd. The burial will be private.
