

Ethel Dorothy Botkin of Richmond, a friendly woman who loved devoting time to her church, passed away on Friday, January 17th. Dorothy, age 93, was born July 31, 1931 in Maryland; the only surviving daughter of Claude and Ethel McDaniel. In 1955 Dorothy married Robert Botkin. She was a typist for Union Envelope for over 25 years. In retirement, she and Bob enjoyed attending Southern Gospel Music concerts, especially The Collingsworth Family. She and Bob sang with the Jubilation Choir at Salisbury Presbyterian Church and Young at Heart at Mount Vernon Baptist. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and attending Prime Timers events at church.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Bob; her children Carole (David) Hayes, Ruth (Butch) Newsome and Daughter in Law Betsy. She had 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and 1 step grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and son Chuck. Friends are encouraged to support Dorothy’s family by attending services or sharing memories on her Tribute Page. Visitation is Thursday, January 23, from 12-1pm with the Funeral service following at 1pm. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Glen Allen with Pastor Jerry Parker officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Love a Child Inc. Fort Myers, Florida. The family is in the care of Woody Funeral Home-Parham.
