Alice Page Winfrey passed away peacefully on January 27, 2011. Born on December 3, 1926 in Richcreek, Va., Alice was the eldest of three daughters born to Estil Henderson and Carrie Archer Page. Alice had fond memories of growing up in Giles County, Va. on the family farm. She often recalled that she preferred domestic duties and looking after her two sisters to the farm chores. Alice certainly excelled in the domestic area. Alice was an exceptional seamstress, a master at the art of crochet, an accomplished cook and a lovely hostess.
Alice met her future husband on a blind date arranged by her cousin when she was just sixteen, but would not rekindle the spark until Garnett returned from serving overseas in WWII. After earning her two year degree in Business Education from Radford College, Alice worked for Celanese Corporation in Narrows, Va. After Alice and Garnett were married, they lived in Princeton, W.Va., where they enjoyed being near family and friends. In 1960, with first born daughter in tow, they moved to Richmond where they would build a wonderful life together and were blessed with a son and another daughter. Alice was a devoted wife, mother, friend and a lifelong member of Circle 2 and The Christian Beliefs Sunday School Class at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Alice is survived by her husband of 63 years, Garnett; their three children, Brenda Mullane (Gerry) of Wayne, Pa., Eric B. Winfrey (Martha) of Mechanicsville, Va. and Marsha Brady of Henrico, Va.; and seven grandchildren. Alice is survived by two sisters, Edna Southern and husband, L.A. of Oakvale, W.Va. and Alma Lee Eden and husband, Gerald, of Roanoke, Va.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 31, at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23229, also where the family requests donations to be sent in lieu of flowers. Online condolences at woodyfuneralhomeparham.com
