

Frances Seroyer Buckalew, 102, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014. She was preceded in death in by her husband, M. Walker Buckalew, Sr., and is survived by her son, M. Walker Buckalew, Jr., and his wife, Linda Mason Hall. Frances is also survived by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was born in Roanoke, Alabama, September 28, 1911, and met her husband while the two of them were in grade school there. She attended Judson College in Alabama, and married Walker on July first, 1933. They enjoyed 66 years of married life together before his passing in February of 2000. During World War II, the family moved many times, because Walker, Sr., was an Army officer and subject to transfer. Frances and Walker, Jr., lived with her sister in Alabama while Walker, Sr., served overseas in the Philippine Islands campaign. Frances was an accomplished watercolorist, having painted dozens of works on commission, and, as well, having painted numerous murals on the interior walls of churches and other public buildings. She also created lace angels and framed lace pictures. Over the years, she taught many adults and children how to create these small marvels. She lived the last eight years of her life at Spring Arbor assisted living in Richmond, where she created wall murals for four different rooms, including the community dining area. Family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. from 5 to 7pm Wednesday, March 26. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Avenue, on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 1pm. The memorial service will be followed by a reception at Spring Arbor 9991 Ridgefield Parkway, Richmond. Burial will be scheduled at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, where Walker, Sr., Lt.
