

Jones, Frances Elkins, 98, of Richmond, passed away on June 26, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Willis O. Jones, Jr.; two sisters; and a brother. She is survived by sons, W. O. Jones, III and his wife, Carolyn Thompson of Richmond; Russell A. Jones and his wife, Ann Gidden of Onancock, Virginia; grandsons, R. Scott Jones of St. Petersburg, Florida, Russell L. Jones, his wife, Soo Min and their children, Abigail and Nathaniel of Piscataway, New Jersey; and granddaughter, Eliza Elkins Canty-Jones and her husband, Kevin Canty-Jones of Portland, Oregan.
She was a member of River Road Church- Baptist and a past member of Ginter Park Baptist Church, very active in both. Her years as a community volunteer included time at the former Richmond Cerebral Palsey Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, Baptist Goodwill Centers and Retreat Hospital. During the 1960’s she worked with Dr. and Mrs. John Newton Thomas at the Richmond City Jail where they provided spiritual counseling, and she taught sewing and led exercise classes for the female inmates. Mrs. Jones was a charter member and Past President of The Commonwealth Woman’s Club, and a member of The Tuckahoe Woman’s Club.
There will be a memorial service in the Fellowship Hall at The Hermitage at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway on Monday, June 30th, at 11:00 a.m. after which the family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509; River Road Church- Baptist, 8000 River Road, Richmond, VA 23229; or The Hermitage at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway, Richmond, VA 23233.
