Fritz Will III

WILL, Dr. Fritz III, 92, of Richmond, passed away on March 21, 2019. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Betty Ramey Will. He is survived by his son, Fritz Will IV and his wife, Dr. Mary Witt Will; daughter, Kathrine Rutledge of Woodbury, Conn.; and sister, Kathrine Jacobsen of Beaufort, S.C. Dr. Will was born and reared in Richmond, and was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Class of 1944. After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended the University of Virginia, earning B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry. He was then employed by the Alcoa Research Labs in New Kensington, Pa. from 1953 to 1965, and by the Philip Morris Research Center in Richmond from 1965 to 1984. Professional honors included the 1960 Chairman of the Society for Analytical Chemistry of Pittsburgh and the 1962 President of the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy. After retiring from Philip Morris USA in 1984, Dr. Will was a substitute teacher in the Chesterfield County Public Schools for 12 years. He was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Richmond, where he served on the Church Council and board of trustees. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27, 2019, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Funeral services will then be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at the Parham Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 503 Stuart Cir., Richmond, Va. 23220, or Circle Center Adult Day Services, 4900 W. Marshall St., Richmond, Va. 23230. The family would also like to give special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Spring Arbor of Richmond, 9991 Ridgefield Pkwy., Henrico, Va.
