

Galina Novitska, known to her friends and family as Galya, peacefully departed this world on January 17, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born in the picturesque town of Temriuk, Krasnodar region of Russia, on August 23, 1928, to the proud parents Georgi and Mariya Moroz.
Galya's journey unfolded with brilliance as she graduated from the Odessa Medical Institute in 1955 specializing in OBGYN. Her unwavering commitment to serving others led her to various medical roles in the underserved areas of South Ural and Altay for several years. Returning to Odessa, she pursued a fellowship in Infection Diseases, showcasing her dedication to advancing medical knowledge.
During her medical school years, Galya formed a special bond with her classmate Apollinary Novitsky, whom she married in 1956. For most of her life, Galya resided in Odessa, Ukraine where she held the esteemed position of Chief of the Brucellosis Diagnostics Department at the Biotech Company until her retirement. Recognized as an author of several inventions and technological advancements, Galina left an indelible mark on the medical community.
In the year 2000, Galina won a Green Card marking the beginning of a new chapter of her life. She embraced permanent residency in Richmond, VA in 2001, bringing her warmth and wisdom to the family.
Galya's devotion extended to her sons, Vlad and Sergei, whom she considered her greatest masterpieces. She rejoiced in the arrival of four beautiful grandchildren – Karolina, Stas, Olga, and Helen, and marveled at the unique personalities of her three amazing great-grandchildren - Zoran, Amelia, and Mila.
A woman of extraordinary qualities, Galya was gentle, kind, compassionate, caring, devoted, and empathetic. Her culinary talents were a special testament to her love, with each astonishing and unique cake crafted becoming a symbol of family togetherness.
Galina Novitska - a remarkable soul, graced this world with the beauty of her presence for more than 95 incredible years. Her journey through life was a testament to resilience, wisdom, and unwavering love.
The family expresses gratitude to the personnel of Henrico Doctors hospitals, At Home Care & Hospice, Nayar Hospice, and Graceful Hearts Home Care Service for their unwavering support during the last year of Galina's life.
In honoring Galya's memory, let us remember the love, warmth, and grace she brought into our lives. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
A visitation and a funeral service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Woody Funeral Home (1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA).
Interment is planned on the same day at 1:00 PM at Mount Vernon Memorial Park (11220 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA). Due to the local regulations, no flowers at the cemetery please.
