After a long and very courageous battle with COPD, Herb passed away July 9, 2014. Born and raised in Arkansas, he adopted Virginia as his home long ago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Lee Bentley Berry, and was the last survivor of their 13 children. Herb is survived by the loves of his life: his wife Lana, beloved daughter Tami and dog Andy, plus a loving extended family-by-marriage in Virginia. Herb was a very patriotic man who would get a lump in his throat whenever he heard The Star Spangled Banner. He spent his life serving his country, first in the military for 20 years including tours in Viet Nam, Korea and various places around the world. He also served in the civil service for 25 years with the Department of Defense where he was always looking out for the soldier in the battle zone. Herb was a man of quiet dignity and easy humor who left this world a better place by his being here. He will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 12609 Patterson Avenue.
