Hien Vinh Nguyen

NGUYEN, Hien V., 84, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019. Hien was born on April 19, 1935. He was the middle child in a family of 16 children. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nguyen Pham Nhu Trang. He is survived by his six children, Son Nguyen (Trinh), Huy Nguyen, Thuy-Trang Nguyen (Lanh), Khanh Nguyen (Be), Trang Salzberg, and Tuan Nguyen (Yen); and eleven grandchildren, Triet, Tri, Thomas, Kevin, Angela, Jennifer, Tina, Martin, Van Anh, Huy, and Hai.

Hien was Lieutenant Supply Officer of the Army Corps of Engineers of the South Republic of Vietnam. When the Vietnam War ended on April 30, 1975, he was imprisoned by the Communists in various re-education camps. He came to the US with his children on February 28, 1992 and settled in Richmond, Virginia. He was a social and loving father who was deeply involved with his family.

The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229 on Sunday, September 1, 2019 between the hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., with church community prayer at 5 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 2, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Vietnamese Martyrs, 12500 Patterson Ave, Richmond VA 23238, with a reception to follow at the parish hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hien’s life. In lieu of flowers, please offer Masses and prayers in his memory.
