

Hobson Dewey Turner, Jr. born January 2, 1932, only son of Hobson Dewey Turner and Maude Butt Turner, died October 3, 2015. Born in New Hope, N.C., he grew up in South Mills, N.C., but resided most of his life in Richmond, Va. Survived by sisters Virginia Dehart and Anne Terrell, sons Christopher and David, grandchildren Miller Bowe, Robert Bowe and Mary Katherine Bowe. Preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Miller Turner, daughter Caroline Turner Bowe, and sisters Fannie Lee Boyce and Kathryn Olds.
Hobson attended Chowan College, Old Dominion University and University of Richmond, and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He retired from Dominion Power, where worked for 37 years. He was a dutiful son, a beloved brother, and devoted husband and father. He cherished his grandchildren most of all. Though he came from a modest background, he attended junior college, working to pay for his tuition. Later he served in the Navy Reserve and worked at the Ford Motor Company plant in Norfolk, Va. He studied business, eventually earning a master’s degree, and went on to a long career at the Virginia Electric and Power Company, later becoming Dominion Power of Virginia. He loved sports, was active in politics, and was an avid golfer for much of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 1:00pm with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 at the Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Richmond, Va. There will be a funeral service at Twiford Funeral Home in Elizabeth City, N.C. on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:00 and Interment will be at Memory Gardens cemetery in Elizabeth City N.C.
