Irene Taylor, lifelong educator, beloved mother, and devoted community member, passed away after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's Disease on March 20th. Born in Richmond on November 16, 1950, to Clarence and Elizabeth (Haines) Latimer, Irene's early life was deeply rooted in the community she would serve throughout her life. She pursued her education at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), obtaining multiple degrees and laying the foundation for her career as an educator.
Irene loved engaging in the community, from being a member and instructor at The Y to her active involvement at Ridge Baptist Church. Even as Alzheimer’s took its toll in her final years, she found joy in her growing family. Updates and milestones for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her happiness and relief.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Latimer and her brothers, Mike and George Latimer. She is survived by her daughter, Meagan Taylor; son, Travis Dallmeyer; grandsons, Anthony and Shawn Dallmeyer; four great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Ken and Art Latimer.
A gathering to honor Irene's life and legacy will be held without a service at Woody Funeral Home on Parham, April 8th, from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
